Whenever I get lost on the journey to a life without oil, I turn to this document for inspiration. It's called the Transistion Initiative.
It's a multi-national community of people that have started a deliberate power-down of their lifestyles and towns. They have taken a city-wide approach to transitioning 100s of communities. A great summary of their work can be found in a 12 step process to a low-energy lifestyle.
